कार्यक्रम · The celebrations
Seven days, from Oli to Vidaai. In Gond art the tree of life holds the whole world. Scroll and watch ours grow, one branch for each day.
The women of the family fill the bride's oli (lap) with rice, haldi and blessings.
The bride's family applies tilak to the groom and offers phal (fruit) and gifts, sealing the alliance.
Sacred earth is worshipped and brought home with songs, and the mandap is raised.
The mother goddesses and ancestors are worshipped for their blessings, followed by turmeric for glow and good fortune.
A recitation of Sundar Kand from Shri Ramcharitmanas, for an auspicious beginning.
The baraat arrives and is welcomed at the door. Jaimala, kanyadaan and the seven rounds around the sacred fire follow.
The bride's farewell from her family home, with tears and blessings.

Shahdol (SDL) is on the Katni–Bilaspur line, with direct trains from many major cities.
The nearest major airport is Jabalpur (JLR). Continue to Shahdol by road or rail.
Late-November nights in Shahdol get cold. Bring a shawl or jacket for the evening functions.
